Abstract
Chaussy and colleagues described the use of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) in man for the first time in 1980. Since then this method has been improved and is now the preferred method of managing renal and proximal/mid-ureteral calculi. It is a safe and effective procedure with a low complication rate. We present the case of a woman who developed serious early and late complications following ESWL. Copyright © 2009, Nederlandse Vereniging voor Intensive Care. All rights reserved.
